Let's talk politics
The winner of an argument about politics (especially among friends) is never the one who is the most informed. Nor is it the one who makes the best points. It is the one who avoids it in the first place.
More on that: arguing about politics with faceless strangers on the internet is by far, one of the least productives things you can do in your life.
Trilemmas
The Trilemma of Monetary Molicy says that it is impossible to have all three at the same time:
- A fixed foreign exchange rate
- Free capital movement
- An independent monetary policy A central bank can choose at most 3 (or in my country, zero).
The CAP Theorem or the Trilemma of Distributed Systems says that any distributed data store can guarantee at most two of these three guarantees
- Consistency
- Availability
- Partition Tolerance
In this spirit, I would like to propose my own theory, the Trilemma of Housing. It states as follows:
“You can rent a house which will provide you at most two of the following three comforts”
- Proximity to the place of work
- Affordability of rent
- Liveliness and livability of the surrounding area
An English Quirk
It’s funny how saying that you are “up for something” and saying that you are “down for something” have the exact same meaning.

Barbershop
I recently had one of my worst barbershop experiences and my asymmetrical beard is a testament to that. Somewhere in between, I had the following conversation after having established 5 minutes ago that I couldn’t speak Tamil:
Barber (in Hindi): So, where are you from?
Me (in Hindi): I am from Goa
Barber (in Hindi): Oh…
Barber (in Hindi): So, dont they speak Tamil in Goa?
Me: 😳
Me (slowly, in Hindi): Uhh, noThe worst part? The dude wasn’t even Tamil himself, he was talking to the other barbers there in a Bhojpuri-Hindi hybrid.
